It was a part of the show since its premier in 2010, Sheets has emerged as one of the main protagonists of the show thanks to his powerful personality and his experience as a former auctioneer in the field of storage. Together with his son Brandon Sheets, he participates in the show. The unclaimed contents from storage lockers on which rent hasn't been paid for 3 months, are auctioned to potential buyers. An experienced storage hunter, Sheets decided to try his luck on the show. While not as knowledgeable as his father, but equipped with great storage hunting abilities and his son Brandon is with his dad on the show. Darrell is often referred to as "The Gambler" because he isn't afraid of playing the odds when bidding. The willingness to risk has helped him become a great storage hunter. Being a part of 'Storage Wars' has brought lots of publicity to this previously undiscovered character and brought him a significant online fan base as well.
