Carey was almost 5'10 tall at the time she was a leading model. Her popularity among American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was extremely high. Her father is a renowned geologist who was voted Scientist of the Year back in 1979 at the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was raised throughout the world because of her father's work. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to model on the side. This caught the eye of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. In the year 1980, she emigrated to France where she briefly resided in Paris as well as Bordeaux but returned back to New York in order to explore the modeling profession. Her work was showcased on Vogue as well as Glamour pages. She studied full-time at New York University, obtaining her degree in literature while working on modeling assignments. She became more interested in acting and began training with the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. Her acting debut came through a tiny role in 'Club Paradise" in 1986, starring Robin Williams. She is a rock climber as well as skiing and windsurfing.
